PROJECT SUMMARY
The project award provided Roskel the opportunity to work again with Multiplex, and our first project on the University of Glasgow’s campus redevelopment
We were awarded the internal fit-out packages comprising SFS (internal), drylining, suspended ceilings, acoustic baffles, door’s and ironmongery, general joinery, IPS Panels as well as providing a bespoke acoustic timber feature solution within the main atrium.
Initially, our works commenced with the construction of the British Gypsum internal walls and linings to form the various meeting rooms and working zones. The partition walls comprised of the installation of high acoustic and robust systems to meet high value of the architects’ design.
Within the central area of the building, the main Atrium and rooflight coffers were located, which were to be formed from Metsec designed SFS infill framing lined with plasterboard and came with many challenges due to the complex shape of rooflight coffers as well as the location of these works.
The suspended ceilings to the main offices and teaching areas had an Ecophon Master Matrix install, to provide accessible points for service installations and maintenance, in a selection of different sized rafts using a 1200x600mm tile and is currently the largest installation of the Matrix system in a single building in the UK. The toilet areas we a combination of SAS ceiling system 150 in a single run install with transition trims fitted to British Gypsum MF plasterboard band ceilings to the perimeter.
Main circulation areas and corridors were generally installed using Ecophon Solo Baffles on a combination of systems, one of which was bespoke and had to be agreed with Ecophon in advance, to provide suitable access to the heavily serviced void which contained the main runs of M & E services throughout the building.
Roskel were tasked to provide a bespoke Acoustic timber panelling arrangement within the main Atrium over 6 floors, taking a concept design brief and developing it to provide a striking feature whilst incorporating acoustic performance. The Atrium was very challenging and reflected Roskel’s’ ability to undertake such complex work to provide our client with such a stunning end visual product
